The Edward Jackson Family - Grenville Co., Ontario  Edward Jackson came to Augusta in 1789 with his  wife, Mary Gadways (Gadiea, Gadieu) , most likely pronouced (gadwa) whom he married in  Montreal in 1788. Edward Jackson appears to be on the  lists of soldiers granted land in the 6th, 7th and 8th  townships in 1784 with the township of Augusta being  the 7th. It is believe however he drew his ballot for the  land in Augusta but did not locate there until 1789. It is  also possible that he did locate in 1784 as we have found  another marriage to a woman who may have died so  Mary Gadways (Gadiea, Gadeau)  was most likely his second  marriage.     I first traveled to Leeds & Grenville in the 1980’s with  my grandfather and became acquainted with many  historians and distant relatives in the vicinity, and many  of those relationships continue as of this date. Once we  met the present owners of our homestead, we have  remained in contact with them for over 30 years and  although they are not related to us, they welcome us  onto their land for research and they have purchased the  Edward Jackson history book. If you plan a trip to this  area contact us and we can direct you to more links and  sites to see on your trip. Research continues in this area  for more descendants of Edward Jackson and Mary  Gadways as over 10,000  are part of our records. The  Jackson history book documents the descendants of 4 of  Edward Jackson’s nine children. A fifth child, James  Jackson and his descendants has been in our records  for years but no proof has been located to date. James had  a son, Adonijah who we have long suspected ties into this  Jackson family. With many researchers tracing him and his  father, James Jackson, nobody has been able to prove  James Jackson’s relationship or his parents. A new door  has opened at Ancestry.com in the DNA field and if one  known descendant of James submits to this, we could  prove or disprove the relationship as descendants of both  George and Thomas Jackson two other sons of Edward  Jackson are now part of the Ancestry.com DNA project and  the link is clear
